In 2006, after gaining valuable experience working for another cabinetmaker and being involved in construction for several years, I took the leap to pursue my dreams and started my first business, Timbercreek Woodworks.
For the next eight years, I had the privilege of working with numerous clients on remodels, cabinetry, furniture, and a wide range of handyman services. I became a licensed contractor and tackled extensive remodel jobs. My hard work led to plenty of referrals, and I rarely had a quiet day—late nights in the shop became the norm.
In 2010, I started a family, which brought about significant life changes and increased responsibilities. Despite being skilled at my craft, I found myself struggling to overcome the financial challenges that many small business owners face. I often joke that "I earned more experience than money" during that time. It was then that I realized I needed to explore new opportunities and alternatives.
My family has always been the driving force behind my journey, and I knew I needed to make some changes to secure a better future, even if it meant stepping away from my small business to pursue another opportunity. In 2012, I decided to challenge myself by returning to school, enrolling in the Mechanical Engineering program at Wichita State University. I graduated in 2016 and began my career as a design engineer in the aerospace industry, eventually transitioning to the electric utility sector. This new path allowed me to expand my skills while providing the stability I needed for my growing family.
In 2019, I was deployed to Puerto Rico as an engineer to support disaster recovery efforts following Hurricane Maria. My background in construction, combined with my engineering degree, opened the door to a career in construction cost estimating. While in Puerto Rico, I learned to use estimating software and worked closely with FEMA staff to assess damages and help applicants secure funding. It was a challenging yet fulfilling time—though I was in an unfamiliar place, unable to speak the language, I cherished every day of the experience.
When I returned home in 2020 and began working remotely, I started taking on side projects in cabinetry and remodeling, rekindling my passion for the industry. My career in estimating has since led me to several roles supporting disaster recovery efforts. While I find this work highly rewarding, my entrepreneurial spirit remains strong. I plan to continue contributing to disaster recovery efforts while simultaneously building my business.
Throughout my journey, I've navigated various phases of life, each accompanied by its own set of challenges and triumphs. One of the most important lessons I've learned is that time is too short not to be productive, and life is far too valuable not to pursue the happiness I'm responsible for. For me, that means providing the best possible life for my family, creating lasting memories, and ensuring my children are set up for success in their futures. While I’ve set high expectations for myself, I am prepared to take the necessary risks to achieve them. The best time to make a change was years ago; the next best time is right now.
In early 2024, I founded Kansas Craftsman, LLC with the goal of taking control of my career and rediscovering my passion for woodworking. Initially, my focus will be on the design, construction, and installation of high-quality, American-made, traditionally built cabinetry. As the business grows, I plan to expand into remodeling, handyman services, and other related areas at the appropriate time.
As a general contractor with expertise in remodeling and homebuilding, I am now venturing into real estate investing, leveraging my skills to personally handle repairs and add a distinctive Kansas Craftsman touch to each property. My long-term goals include building custom homes in both modern and Craftsman styles, as well as investing in rental properties and house flips. This new direction allows me to combine my passion for craftsmanship with the opportunities in real estate, creating unique spaces that reflect my commitment to quality and design.
I consider myself to be artistic, innovative, and driven by a passion to create. I have a variety of product ideas that I’m excited to share with the world, both through online stores and in-person sales. These products include wall art, outdoor décor, gardening accessories, and unique gift items perfect for the holiday season. My creative work spans a wide range of mediums, including concrete, wood, steel, copper, leather, paints, and even pottery. Each piece I create reflects my dedication to craftsmanship and my desire to bring something truly special to the market.
I envision Kansas Craftsman expanding into a professional handyman division in the future, with a focus on providing honesty, professionalism, expertise, and fair pricing to the industry. From simple tasks like replacing toilets, ceiling fans, and dishwashers, to larger projects such as fencing and painting, I aim to build a reliable team that becomes the go-to resource for local communities.
Additionally, I am committed to offering substantial discounts to senior citizens and lower-income families, ensuring they can access essential home repairs without the added worry of financial strain. By doing so, I hope to make a meaningful impact and provide valuable services to those who need them most.
Imagine not only growing and raising the majority of the food your family consumes, but having so much that you're able to share this healthy, natural food with your community. This is the lifestyle I am working toward on my 40-acre property, where I am in the process of planning barns, fencing, irrigation systems, and even a general store to sell directly from the farm.
I’m deeply committed to teaching my children the value of where our food comes from and the hard work it takes to harvest what we sow. My plans include raising a small herd of dairy cattle for raw milk and producing cheese and butter, as well as chickens for eggs and meat, turkeys, beef cattle, and hogs. On the gardening side, I intend to build a greenhouse for year-round produce, in addition to cultivating outdoor gardens. Through this project, I hope to not only nourish my family but also contribute to the local community with fresh, sustainably grown food.
